As the Company has grown we have continued to invest in supporting our staff and encouraging them to grow and develop.
Our academy provides opportunities for all, including engaging with young people who are yet to enter into the world of work.
Work experience & Career Events:
Hugh J Boswell work with local schools to provide work experience placements and careers advice to young people. Week long work experience placements are offered throughout the school year with students spending time in a number of different departments, gaining knowledge of how each department plays their part in the success of the Company.
The Company has a strong ethos in supporting the local community and what better way of doing so and actively developing the workforce of the future then investing in apprentices.
Undertaking an apprenticeship allows the learner to be active in the workplace, learning key soft skills and competencies as well as being supported in undertaking their technical training. Our insurance apprentices rotate around the business experiencing the different departments and insurance covers dealt with. This provides them with a well-rounded learning experience and gives them the opportunity to find the department that best suits their interests and skills.
The Insurance Practitioner apprenticeship standard provides a Level 3 qualification along with Certificate in Insurance.
Apprenticeships are also available for support functions and are tailored to the specific needs of the department and learner.
The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) is the leading body for Insurance and Financial Services professionals. Becoming a member of the CII allows the individual to be part of a professional community which supports professional and career development.
We fully support the CII and encourage our staff to undertake their CII qualifications. The qualifications are supported financially by the Company with the following being paid for:
- Membership fees
- Qualification bonus
- 2 hours study leave per week
- Half day study leave prior to exam
- Time off to attend exam
Knowledge and skills developed will be utilised to support personal and professional development, job satisfaction, business objectives and client expectations.
Learning & Development Plans:
All employees are given a Learning & Development Plan (L&D Plan) to assist them in reaching the required standard for their job role. Should you wish to progress up the career ladder or expand your role into another area, subsequent L&D Plans are available to facilitate professional growth.
Personal Development Plans:
Whilst our L&D Plans focus on professional growth and career development, our Personal Development Plans (PDPs) allow for personal growth.
Each member of staff is provided with a PDP focusing on the personal skills and attributes employees wish to develop, from time management skills, negotiating skills to learning supervisory business skills, the plans are tailored to meet the individual’s unique requirements.
Mentoring recognises that everyone has something to learn and something to teach. The mentoring relationship is built on mutual trust, respect and communication and provides open and collaborative learning.
Our peer to peer mentoring programme can benefit employees by assisting in increasing self-confidence, identify career goals, improve interpersonal relationship skills, improve active listening skills, help consider different perspectives and provide personal satisfaction along with many other great benefits.
Continued Professional Development
Undertaking Continued Professional Development (CPD) is vital for employees to maintain, update and improve their knowledge and competency. CPD is fully supported by the Company with plenty of opportunities available to attend external and internal training, taking part in peer to peer mentoring, e-learning and networking.
